Sofia Bohdanowicz is an award-winning filmmaker from Toronto and founder of Maison du Bonheur Productions. Retrospectives of her work have been presented at BAFICI, Punto de Vista, the Cinemateca de Bogotá, DocLisboa, and the Festival du nouveau cinéma. In 2017, the Toronto Film Critics Association awarded her the Jay Scott Prize, and in 2018 she was nominated for the Rogers Best Canadian Film Award for her documentary Maison du bonheur. Her third feature film, MS Slavic 7, appeared on the cover of Cinema Scope and the Argentine newspaper Página/12, premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival, and was screened at the Harvard Film Archive. A graduate of the MFA program in Film Production at York University, she is also an alumna of Berlinale Talents and the TIFF Talent Accelerator. Her fourth feature film, A Woman Escapes — co-directed with Burak Çevik and Blake Williams — won the Churubusco Award at the CATAPULTA workshop of FICUNAM. The film premiered in the International Competition at FIDMarseille, where it received an honorable mention for the CNAP Award. In 2024, she was named one of the “22 Most Influential People in Canadian Film” by Barry Hertz in The Globe and Mail, as well as part of DOC NYC’s “40 Under 40” class. Her latest feature film, Measures for a Funeral, winner of the Kodak and Silverway awards at the FIDMarseille co-production lab, premiered in the Centrepiece section of the Toronto International Film Festival. The film won the Grand Prize in the National Competition at the Festival du nouveau cinéma. Her works are currently available on the Criterion Channel, DAFilms, Tënk, and Kanopy.
