"I have always been drawn to films that, whether as a result of their content, style, or biographies, have ended up falling (or, rather, being pushed) through the cracks and out of view. In their obscurity, such films challenge dominant histories and orthodoxies, problematizing notions of what counts as aesthetically, socially, and politically acceptable both in and outside of cinema. I am also particularly interested in histories of activist cinema and video art, and in the ways film can be used in social struggles — both as a space to bear witness to and chronicle such struggles (that we might learn and grow from them), and as a practical tool to galvanize solidarity."

Jack Guariento is a filmmaker and programmer from Glasgow, Scotland, based in Montreal.
