The films of Tatiana Huezo Sánchez

Synopsis

Two women, their voices echoing over the landscape and highways of Mexico from North to South, as they tell how official corruption and injustice allowed violence to take control of their lives, desires and dreams. An emotional and evocative journey, steeped not only in loss and pain, but also in love, dignity and resistance.

A word from Tënk

2,000km by bus, the passengers’ faces, the brutality of a police checkpoint, the rain on the windows… We never see the face of the person telling the story, the story of thousands of “pagadores”, the innocent people thrown in prison whose families have to pay a ransom for their release. Torture, survival, insanity never far off and the question: just how far would you go to see your child again? In “Tempestad”, Tatiana Huezo takes her process of dissociating sound and image to the extreme. The images never illustrate the accounts. And there’s a reason – there are no images that can convey the horror experienced by these two women. A second feature-length documentary that deeply affects the viewer and reveals the turmoil of a country in the grip of extreme violence, where women are the first to suffer.
