Through these four women who work tirelessly to ensure that their sisters have the freedom to make the choices that are right for them—and to do so safely—we discover what a life of activism entails. Filmmaker Karolina Lucyna Domagalska has chosen to show us the psychological toll on those who, with patience and empathy, dedicate themselves—against all odds—to what they know is the right thing to do.

One in three women worldwide will have an abortion in her lifetime. And the question is never whether women will have it, but whether they will die from it. Making abortion accessible therefore helps save lives… women’s lives. And this is the challenge faced by Justyna, Natalia, Karolina, and Kinga in a country where abortion is banned.

The film plunges us into the heart of their daily struggle as they face a bitterly cold wind. We are moved by the mutual support they show one another. These fighters hold each other in their arms and wipe their fellow activist’s tears with the compassion in their hearts, and despite the obstacles, none of them ever wavers in her commitment.

As misogynistic and anti-feminist ideas spread through people’s minds, propelled by generously funded algorithms, we draw from these women’s determination the energy needed for the battles ahead for human rights, which are, sadly, still being called into question. This film shows that solidarity and struggle are sustaining forces — and vital ones.
