Synopsis

This is the story of Lila, Nico, Yoni, Justine, and Guy, the parallel destinies of three boys and two girls born in the early 80s, five characters who have agreed to turn their lives into a film.

A word from Tënk

A polymorphous work, somewhere between improv theater, home video and family film collage, Virgil Vernier's first feature film offers us an instant time capsule of cinema and mixed memories.

Between becoming-archive and contemporary mythologies, Virgil Vernier's cinema never ceases to explore the intimate meanders of memory and forgetfulness. Thus, the fragments of the lives of the five protagonists (including the future awardee of the Palme d’Or Justine Triet) become the uncluttered pieces of a melancholy puzzle, where intensity has turned into disorder and disorder into poetry.

Like a tribe that refuses to grow up, Chroniques de 2005 isolates each of its characters in discussion and evocation of the past, in the tradition of a Eustache work, to describe an absent world stripped of the convictions of childhood.

What remains is a great little film about the chronic ills of the new adult continent, its incandescent need for tenderness, friendship and alterity, to resuscitate with fresh eyes the lost bond of the world before.
