The films of Matthew Wolkow

Synopsis

Montreal… a museum… a garage… Chile…

Muchas Cosas Juntas… Plusieurs choses ensemble… Many things together…

A word from Tënk

In Muchas Cosas Juntas, true to his artistic approach, Matthew Wolkow poetically introduces us to a place and people from his daily life, in this case an eclectic neighborhood auto garage. This is the first documentary the filmmaker has shot in Super 8 with in-camera editing, that is, when the film's shots are captured in chronological order, a rawer form of creation echoing the mechanics' tasks. With a clever soundtrack mixing classical music from a gramophone and the sounds of car mechanics, we get a glimpse of the team of mechanics practicing their trade in an atypical setting. Through the tools are mixed collections of trinkets, models, statues, clocks and baroque lamps. These singular elements that make up the space tend to make their work less banal, and also offer us a reminder that, more often than not, small family businesses are more personalized, welcoming and charming than large, aseptic commercial premises. It is this sense of place that Wolkow has captured in this short film.
