Intimacy

Synopsis

A word from Tënk

"It's a beautiful story, but it's a true story, and it ends in tragedy."

How do you evoke the individual suffering of a highly publicized account? Allende's granddaughter's relentless efforts to unravel her family's memory have been met with stubborn silence. While some of her cousins share her need to know, others are similarly myopic. To approach the private memory of such a figure is to debunk a myth: to bring humanity back to a man who has become an archetype in the history of the Left. Who owns his story?

But there's more: the suicide of Allende's daughter after exile, the infinite pain of a shattered dream, and the violence of dictatorship. Marcia Tambutti Allende shows immense courage, brimming with clumsiness and love, as she tackles the stubborn taboos that kept her family painfully silent. It's the family photos and videos that finally break the silence, freeing the family to speak out, and enabling them to begin collective mourning for the ghosts that have haunted them individually.
