Synopsis

With an elephant’s ivory tusk as the protagonist, this film meditates upon the endless tactility of museological and ecological conservation, inviting reflection upon forms of representation, replicas, and embodiments of various materials, disciplines, and institutions.

A word from Tënk

Those That, at a Distance, Resemble Another is a sensory and poetic foray into the world of museum curation. Director Jessica Sarah Rinland's camera delicately embraces the meticulousness of the gesture. The slow pace allows us to feel the respect in the work of conservation. Without guiding us through interviews or even facial expressions of the curators, the director chooses to focus on the hands and objects. The film then reveals itself as a fascinating study of the relationship to museum objects, for whom and for what they should exist through time.
