Synopsis

Picasso in his works and Picasso at work. A way of placing the viewer at the heart of the creation process, as close as possible to his line drawing which is the genius of the painter, Paul Haesaerts imagined a new process. The artist paints on a window and the camera captures it transparently. On the screen turned canvas, the precise and fluid brush gives body to the creatures - bird, bull, naked woman … - and Picasso, who can be seen from the front, obviously takes pleasure in the exercise.

A word from Tënk

The year is 1950. Picasso is at his apogee, already canonized, already master of Vallauris. This art history film explores his potential. A Visit to Picasso is a record of the first encounter between the moving image and the artist in action. Thanks to Belgian filmmaker and art historian Paul Haesaerts’ invention of a technique for filming transparent plates, we are in sync with the clear line drawn by Picasso, face to face with his hypnotic creative liberty and the coherence of his work. This short film allows us an exceptional look at the sharp and playful eye of this master, his assured brushstrokes and the pleasure of creation.
