Synopsis

An intimate portrait of painter and filmmaker Peter Greenaway, directed by his wife Saskia Boddeke. Together with his daughter Pip, Greenaway formulates an alphabet that represents his personality and thoughts about art and life.

A word from Tënk

While watching this film - awarded the Grand Prix of the Master of Arts Festival 2019 - I made the very silly comment that it takes a lot of nerve to film such a filmmaker without thinking of "escaping" him. But I also saluted the courage of this wife and art film director, Saskia Boddeke, who dared to put her husband and their daughter on screen: the artist and the young girl in the making; the father and the teenager. She risked silences, disagreements, refusals to expose herself, but she did not count the pearls: knowing glances, wise words and, precisely, silences and disagreements.

And then it was also underestimating the ingenuity of a scenario mounted in selected fragments around a canonical persona certainly, but which reflects above all a spirit in constant creative impulse: from cinema to painting to cinema to writing to painting to cinema, etc.

Not a restful man, but who said that there was an age to stop creating and thinking about possibilities? Certainly not Peter Greenaway!
